Kick-off for DS Collab 2025

DS Collab 2025 001

This week, we marked the official start of DS Collab 2025 with an inspiring kick-off at LK Hjelle's brand store in Oslo. Eight exciting projects were presented, giving us a unique insight into the creative work that lies ahead.

During the evening, we gained an inspiring insight into the various design processes, where we saw the first sketches, learned about advanced weaving techniques, and admired a detailed miniature model of a new chair. We were also introduced to designers who take responsibility for the entire value chain, from harvesting materials directly from nature to completing the final product by hand. This gave us a deeper understanding of the designers' mindset and motivation, clearly illustrating the passion and integrity behind these exciting projects.

DS Collab 2025 is a wholly Norwegian initiative, where producers and designers have connected through an open call organized by Designers' Saturday this spring. The project is unique in Norway and serves as an important platform for collaboration among industry players.

«DS Collab is a great initiative for connecting Norwegian producers and designers. It’s a rewarding experience to work towards a common deadline and exciting to gain insight into each other's processes.»
Kristine Five Melvær, Product designer

The DS Collab project will continue to evolve over the coming months with the goal of strengthening Norwegian design and showcasing what we can achieve when producers and designers work together. Norsk Industri Designindustrien is on board to help create international attention around the projects.

The finished products from DS Collab 2025 will be presented in a dedicated exhibition during Designers' Saturday 2025. Follow us on Instagram and LinkedIn for insights into the design processes and to see how the project is helping to shape the future of Norwegian design.

«DS Collab strengthens the bonds between Norwegian designers and producers, promotes innovative collaborations, and paves the way for new commercial design successes.»
Annette Hoff, The Federation of Norwegian Industries
