About ygg&lyng

ygg&lyng was founded in 2009 with a vision to unite a love for nature with functional design. The name "ygg&lyng" reflects the brand's Nordic roots, where "Ygg" comes from the world tree Yggdrasil, symbolizing life, and "lyng" refers to the beautiful, resilient plant that endures harsh weather.

ygg&lyng's collection is characterized by simplicity, fine craftsmanship, honest materials, and environmentally conscious production. Drawing inspiration from nature, history, and tradition, they blend heritage with contemporary Nordic living to create designs that invite personal expression and memorable moments, whether alone or together.

Since the beginning, ygg&lyng has been passionately committed to creating beautiful, lasting pieces with materials and visual expressions that foster a connection to nature. This love remains at the heart of everything they create.

About Vilde Hagelund

Vilde Hagelund (b. 1992) begins her design process by questioning established norms and exploring form through experimentation. With a strong connection to materials, especially wood, she constantly shifts between digital and analog sketching. This hands-on approach allows her to work closely with materials, understand how form interacts with space, and refine structural details. Her ambition to create alternatives to mass-produced, short-lived products drives her to combine craftsmanship, material expertise, and technology to craft durable, lasting pieces.

Hagelund has a broad academic background, holding a bachelor's degree in multimedia technology and design from the University of Agder, as well as a bachelor's and master's degree in product design from OsloMet. She has interned with Andreas Engesvik and outdoor furniture producer Vestre. In 2019, she received the DOGA award as "Newcomer of the Year" and was named one of the world's most promising young design talents by Wallpaper*. Her work has gained international recognition, and in 2022, she received the Scheibler Design Prize in collaboration with the National Museum of Norway.

«Ygg&lyng has long sought a design collaboration. We admire Vilde’s tactile approach and her ability to balance form and function. We also share a fascination for wood as a material and traditional craftsmanship. We have come to know Vilde as dedicated, talented, and a pleasure to work with. We look forward to continuing this journey and are grateful for the opportunity to participate in DS Collab.»
