LIGHTYEARS IS PRESENTING ITS NEW LAMPS AQ01™, SUSPENCE™ COPPER AND THE RADON™ SOLIS LINE EXTENSIONS, ADDING NEW EXPRESSIONS TO FAMILIAR FORMS. COMBINING TRADITION WITH INNOVATION, THE DESIGNS ARE SIMPLE, FUNCTIONAL, AND – EACH IN ITS OWN WAY – ROOTED IN THE NORDIC DESIGN AESTHETIC.
The new AQ01™ desk light, designed by Anne Qvist from Anne Qvist Design Office, reveals a recognisable design expression while offering an innovative take of refined details and curved lines.
“In my opinion, design’s first job is to translate complexity into simplicity in both function and expression,” says Anne Qvist.
With its curvy edges and matte finish, the AQ01’s shade is designed to attract the human hand and can be switched on and off or dimmed directly on the head.
“There is a strong tendency in the way we design to be more emotional and simple. Maybe because technology no longer fascinates us and instead we use technology to our convenience. This is also the main idea behind the AQ01: technology makes it possible to reduce the number of visible components, and what remains visually are two arms, a lamp shade and a rotary joint. A very simple-looking product with a lot of technology built into it.”
Anne Qvist is an Aarhus-based architect and designer with her own design studio, and the AQ01 is the result of her first collaboration with LIGTHYEARS. Qvist’s design expresses a sense of pragmatism combined with respect for both craftsmanship and context. She believes in changeability and diversity, and emphasizes design that is able to enter many different contexts with a high level of usability, functionality and humanity. She categorizes design in a larger context, where it takes on new meaning and has the ability to enact change.
Originally launched in 2016, the SUSPENCE™ Series by GamFratesi for LIGHTYEARS is now extended with a copper version for a warm, exclusive look and feel that not only lights up a dark corner, the dining table, or the kitchen – but beautifies the entire room.
GamFratesi’s design takes its creative power from a fusion of tradition and innovation along with an experimental approach to the selected materials and techniques. With their cross-cultural background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi thus draw from both classic Danish design and the tradition of craftsmanship, and the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. With their minimalist, refined and expressive design form, they are able to tell a unique story with their design. In the process of creating designs for Lightyears, GamFratesi has worked with a conceptual and functional approach to lighting.
The inspiration for the SUSPENCE lamp series is a visual translation of a movement into a physical shape. The result is a pendant with an organic and natural soft curve. An infinity diffuser concentrates the light, prevents glare and creates an elegant optical illusion of infinite light. The diffuser can also be removed to achieve stronger, more direct light.
Experience the iconic Caravaggio™ series designed by Cecilie Manz. The Caravaggio™ series combines an easily recognisable shape with a modern expression. The classic pendant consists of a metal shade with feminine lines and a more masculine chrome-plated suspension. The matching textile cable is well integrated into the design and adds a finishing touch to the lamp. The Caravaggio Matt™ pendant gives off a concentrated downward light illuminating both the suspension and the cable through the open top. The deep shade prevents glare.
A childhood fascination with aircraft and, in particular, the Zeppelin airships gliding with steady grace across the sky, has inspired Iskos-Berlin to create Avion™. Avion™ is a large oval pendant that naturally fills the ‘interior airspace’ of your room. Despite its substantial size, Avion™ seems to hover playfully in the air, ready to change its direction to suit your desire. The pendant light is made of polyethylene and emits a soft, diffuse light that creates a cosy, natural atmosphere in the room. The Avion™ pendant can be suspended from high up in the room and is ideal for the illumination of canteens, atriums and large rooms. Avion™ can be arranged in regular formation, as a dynamic pack or in one line to mark a passage through a building.
